Q1. What is the full form of IRMS?
Ans. IRMS stands for Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS).
Q2. What is IRMS?
Ans. Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS) is a prestigious Group ‘A’ service under the Ministry of Railways, Government of India. Meritorious candidates from various disciplines are recruited for IRMS (Technical) and IRMS (Non-Technical) through ESE and CSE, respectively.
Q3. Who is eligible for the IRMS?
Ans. The eligibility criteria for the IRMS 2025 are as follows:
- Age: The minimum and maximum age of the respective candidate must be 21 years and 32 years, respectively. Age relaxation shall be provided to the eligible candidates as per the ESE Rules 2025.
- Educational qualifications: Degree in Engineering from a recognized university or institute.
Q4. Is IRMS only for engineers?
Ans. No, apart from a degree in engineering, candidates who hold a degree in other disciplines may be eligible for the IRMS (Non-Technical) through the Civil Services Examination. However, the IRMS (Technical) is only for candidates having a degree in engineering.

Ans.To apply for IRMS, candidates must have to apply through ESE.

Q6. How many vacancies are notified for IRMS 2025?
Ans. A total number of 225 IRMS vacancies are to be filled through ESE 2025. i.e; 75 for IRMS (Civil), 40 for IRMS (Mechanical), 50 for IRMS (Electrical), 40 for IRMS (S&T) and 20 for IRMS (Stores).
Q7. Will there be a separate exam for IRMS?
Ans. No, as per the latest notification released by DoPT, the engineers for IRMS will be recruited through ESE. Eligible candidates for IRMS shall be required to appear in the Engineering Services Examination (ESE).
