{"id":621,"date":"2024-07-03T09:40:33","date_gmt":"2024-07-03T09:40:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/study.madeeasy.in\/?p=621"},"modified":"2025-07-16T14:53:22","modified_gmt":"2025-07-16T09:23:22","slug":"limiting-length-of-the-offset","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.madeeasy.in\/study\/ce\/surveying\/limiting-length-of-the-offset","title":{"rendered":"LIMITING LENGTH OF THE OFFSET"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The maximum length of the offset is generally determined from the view point that the error produced in plotting the detail on the drawing sheet is not very significant.<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Alternatively, the displacement of the detail on the drawing sheet should not be more than 0.25 mm from its correct position.<\/li>\r\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">The maximum length of the offset in fact depends on:<\/li>\r\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">The scale of the plot<\/li>\r\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Error in the direction and length of a line<\/li>\r\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">The desired level of accuracy<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Error in the Direction of Offset<\/h3>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Let an offset <em>Pp <\/em>is taken to the detail <em>P <\/em>from the running chain line at <em>p<\/em>. Let there be an error of a in the direction of <em>Pp <\/em>i.e. the offset makes an angle a with the true perpendicular and let <em>l <\/em>be the length of the offset.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">When the offset is plotted on the drawing sheet, it will be plotted as <em>pP<\/em><sub>1<\/sub> and thus the actual point <em>P <\/em>gets displaced to <em>P<\/em><sub>1<\/sub>. Draw perpendicular <em>PP<\/em><sub>2<\/sub> from P on the line <em>pP<\/em><sub>1<\/sub>. Thus displacement along the chain line is <em>PP<\/em><sub>2<\/sub>.
