However, from the view point of the computation time and memory, the nodal admittance formulation employing the node voltages as the independent variable is the most economical. Hence, it is most preferred.<\/li>\n<li>In load flow study following points need to be considered :<br \/>\n(i) Generators are represented by complex power sources (S<sub>Gi<\/sub> = P<sub>Gi<\/sub> + jQ<sub>Gi<\/sub>)<br \/>\n(ii) Loads are represented as complex power demand (S<sub>Di<\/sub>= P<sub>Di<\/sub> + jQ<sub>Di<\/sub>)<br \/>\n(iii) The transmission lines connected to ith bus are replaced by their \u03c0-equivalent circuits, i.e., with series admittance and half line charging admittance.<br \/>\n(iv) Each transmission line will present an admittance between the bus and the ground. Hence, the total admittance (Y<sub>io<\/sub>) is the sum of the admittances due to all the transmission lines connected to the bus.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Now, let us consider the figure shown below.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Let us assume that there is no mutual coupling between the transmission lines and there is no regulating transformer present in system.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4333 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/study.madeeasy.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/power_system.jpg\" alt=\"Power System\" width=\"402\" height=\"181\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.madeeasy.in\/study\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/power_system.jpg 402w, https:\/\/www.madeeasy.in\/study\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/power_system-300x135.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 402px) 100vw, 402px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here, Y<sub>ik<\/sub>=(i \u2260 k) = total admittance connected between the i<sup>th<\/sup> and the k<sup>th<\/sup> buses [Y<sub>ik<\/sub> (i \u2260 k) = 0<br \/>\nif no transmission line is between ith and k<sup>th<\/sup> bus]<br \/>\nY<sub>io<\/sub>=Admittance connected between i<sup>th<\/sup> bus and the ground.<br \/>\nNow, applying KCL at the i<sup>th<\/sup> bus, we have<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4334 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/study.madeeasy.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/transmission-e1739773676230.jpg\" alt=\"Transmission\" width=\"660\" height=\"602\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.madeeasy.in\/study\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/transmission-e1739773676230.jpg 660w, https:\/\/www.madeeasy.in\/study\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/transmission-e1739773676230-300x274.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 660px) 100vw, 660px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Properties of Y<sub>BUS<\/sub>:<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Following are some of the properties of Y<sub>BUS<\/sub> matrix.<br \/>\n(i) It is \u201csparsity matrix\u201d \u201csparsity matrix\u201d \u201csparsity matrix\u201d \u201csparsity matrix\u201d \u201csparsity matrix\u201d.<br \/>\n(ii) It is a symmetric matrix i.e. [Y<sub>BUS<\/sub>] = [Y<sub>BUS<\/sub>]<sup>T<\/sup>.<br \/>\n(iii) It is a square matrix (n \u00d7 n) and hence it\u2019s inverse is possible.<br \/>\n(iv) The inverse of a Y<sub>BUS<\/sub> matrix is a full matrix, i.e., Z<sub>BUS<\/sub>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Since in a power system each bus is connected only to a few other buses (two or three), there are large number of zero elements in a Y<sub>BUS<\/sub> matrix compared to a Z<sub>BUS<\/sub> matrix.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Load flow study can also be done using a Z<sub>BUS<\/sub> matrix but, it is usually done with a Y<sub>BUS<\/sub> matrix because it\u2019s sparsity is very high.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a class=\"btn btn-danger\" role=\"button\" href=\"https:\/\/study.madeeasy.in\/ee\/power-generation-concepts\/sudden-change-in-mechanical-input\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&lt;&lt;
