for\u00a0a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of dozens of hostages.<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Key Highlights<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>The United States, Egypt and Qatar\u00a0have spent the past year trying to mediate an end to the 15-month war.<\/li>\n<li>The plan would need to be submitted to the Israeli Cabinet for final approval.<\/li>\n<li>It is a three-phase agreement\u00a0\u2014 based on a framework laid out by US President Joe Biden and endorsed by the UN Security Council.<\/li>\n<li><strong>First Phase:<\/strong>\u00a0It would begin with the gradual release of 33 hostages over a six-week period in exchange for Palestinian women and children imprisoned by Israel. It will be a 42-day phase, Israeli forces would withdraw from population centers.<\/li>\n<li>In the second phase, Hamas would release the remaining living captives, mainly male soldiers, in exchange for more prisoners and the\u00a0\u201ccomplete withdrawal\u201d of Israeli forces from Gaza.<\/li>\n<li>In a third phase,\u00a0the bodies of remaining hostages would be returned in exchange for a three- to\u00a0five-year reconstruction plan\u00a0to be carried out in Gaza under international supervision.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>About Hamas<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>Hamas is the\u00a0largest Palestinian militant Islamist group\u00a0and one of the two major political parties in the region.
